Regarding the historic decision given by the Supreme Court regarding the local government election. Mr. Premanath C. Dolawatta’s statement in the Parliament yesterday (07) has caused a great controversy in the legal field and the political field.

Earlier, a three-judge panel of the Supreme Court issued an order to nullify the local government election, and another order was given last week, suspending the provision of funds from the budget for the local government election.

Thus, all the efforts made by the government to postpone the local government elections have failed so far.

In such an atmosphere, Mr. Dolawatta’s statement made by Mr. Dylan Perera, the opposition member of parliament and lawyer, said that this statement is a serious one and a serious conflict between the executive and the legislature may arise through it.

Mr. Dilan Perera emphasized that it is inappropriate to make such statements in such a situation as such statements may have adverse results for the country.

Also, the opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa stood up and condemned the statement made by Mr. Dolawatta.
