Retired Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuiyakontha has been appointed as the new Secretary of Defense.
During the humanitarian operation, Air Vice Marshal Thuiyakontha served as the Commander of the MI-24 helicopter force.
With a distinguished career, he also held the position of Commander and Chief Pilot of the Elite Aircraft Squadron for several years.
