The organizers of the opening ceremony of the newly built Wahalkada market in Anuradhapura were forced to stop the event midway due to a protest launched by the residents against the participation of area political authority. Sri Lanka Latest News
North Central Province Governor Mr. Mahipala Herath Anuradhapura District Member of Parliament K. H. Nandasena, former land minister S. M. Chandrasena and a group of political authorities were supposed to participate in this event.
Knowing in advance that the people would not participate, no one from the political authority participated in this event.
Kabithigolleva local council organized this event.
A handful of government officials were present at this ceremony and only Mr. Tissa Karalliedda, a former minister, was seen sitting with a few government officials.
In this regard, when we asked Mrs. Roshini, the Secretary of Kabithigolleva Divisional Council over the phone, she did not answer and hung up the phone.
The people of Vahalkada said that they were given invitations to participate in the opening ceremony, but they did not participate in any of the events where the politicians would come they said they did not participate in protest of politicians’ participation.
The Sati Pola was not opened, and the officers of Kabithigollawa Regional Council who organized the event stayed till around 12 noon and left.
