The Department of Meteorology has issued a red warning for strong winds and rough seas, effective until tomorrow (28th).
According to the warning, the affected sea areas extend from Chilaw to Puttalam via Kankesanthurai, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
The advisory states that due to the prevailing southwest monsoon conditions, wind speeds in these sea areas may reach 60 to 70 kmph at times, making the seas very rough intermittently.
In light of these hazardous conditions, the Department has strongly advised maritime and fishing communities to avoid venturing into these sea areas until further notice.
