Red alert notice issued to 8 districts – People cautioned.

Red alert notice issued to 8 districts due to continuous heavy rain fall. The National Building Research Organization has taken steps to issue red landslide risk notices for Ratnapura, Kuruwita and Alapatha in Ratnapura district, as well as Palindanuvara divisional secretariat divisions in Kalutara district.

Meanwhile, steps have been taken to issue landslide warnings for 8 districts due to heavy rainfall in many parts of the island.

Accordingly, second level landslide warnings have been issued for Yakkalamulla, Nagoda and Baddegama in Galle district, Valallavita and Bulathsinhala in Kalutara district as well as Aheliyagoda, Kahawatta, Kalawana and Ayagama in Ratnapura district.

Many parts of the island have been receiving heavy rains since yesterday.

Galle and Yakkalamulla recorded the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours. It was shown as 195 mm.

According to the Disaster Management Center, Kalu Ganga from Ratnapura, Maguru Ganga from Magura area, Kudu Ganga from Millakand and Ging Ganga from Tavalama area are rising to a minor flood level with the rains.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology says that some places in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces may experience very heavy rains of more than 150 millimeters in the next 24 hours.

The department mentioned that heavy rains of about 100 mm may occur in some places in other areas.
