The High Commissioner of India, H.E. Santosh Jha, hosted a reception on June 13, 2024, at India House in Colombo to honour the awardees from the 39th Board of Directors meeting of the India-Sri Lanka Foundation. The event was attended by board members, representatives from philanthropic and business organizations, media professionals, and officials from the High Commission.
The 39th Board of Directors meeting took place on March 19, 2024, in New Delhi, India. During this meeting, 16 projects from India and Sri Lanka, focusing on art, history, education, training and cultural development, health, and social development, were approved. Of these, 10 projects will be implemented in Sri Lanka by the Colombo Secretariat.
In his speech, the High Commissioner praised the India-Sri Lanka Foundation for its role in supporting small yet impactful projects. He emphasized that the Foundation exemplifies the extensive, people-centric development and economic cooperation between the two nations.
The India-Sri Lanka Foundation was established on December 28, 1998, through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of India and Sri Lanka. Its aim is to strengthen Indo-Lanka relations by enhancing economic, scientific, educational, technical, and cultural cooperation and fostering greater understanding between the peoples of the two countries. Over the past 25 years, the Foundation has supported approximately 600 projects worth more than SLR 160 million, with over 360 projects implemented in Sri Lanka.
