It is reported that President Ranil Wickremesinghe is going to participate in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Egypt next month.
It is also learned that the President is currently working to establish a Secretariat on Climate Change under the Office of the President.
Reports also indicate that the President has discussed this with the former President and current Speaker of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, as well as the former Environment and Climate Minister of Norway, Erik Solheim.
Along with the President, Mr. Ruwan Wijewardena, the President’s Senior Adviser on the Environment, is also going to participate in this visit.
The COP27 summit will begin on November 6 and end on November 18.
