Dr. Gallelle Sumanasiri Thero has stepped down from his position as the Chancellor of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka.
The Venerable Thero was appointed to the role on the 10th but has now tendered his resignation in a letter addressed to the Secretary to the President.
In his resignation letter, Dr. Gallelle Sumanasiri Thero reportedly stated that if his appointment as Chancellor has caused distress to any party, led to divisive opinions, or threatened the unity of the Sangha, he prioritizes the harmony among the Sangha over holding the position.
