Speaking to the media, MP Rajapaksa said that it is the view of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna that social media should be regulated to some extent in Sri Lanka.
“We need to focus on protecting the privacy of individuals. Therefore, it is necessary to implement laws in this regard,” he said.
Parliamentarian Rajapaksa further pointed out that any person responsible for information, news or posts shared on social media has no reason to be afraid of the Internet Security Bill.
The former minister also stated that he expects all MPs, including opposition MPs, to vote in favour of the bill.
The proposed Online Safety Bill is expected to be passed in Parliament tomorrow (January 24).
