The campaign period for the 2024 presidential election concluded at midnight yesterday (18th). From that point until election day on Saturday, the 21st, has been designated as a “quiet period.”

With just two days remaining until the election, the Election Commission has strictly prohibited any form of campaign activity during this quiet period. The police have been given full authority to enforce these regulations and take legal action against any violations.

Additionally, the Excise Department has announced that all pubs across the island will be closed on the 21st and 22nd in line with the election. This closure was requested by the Election Commission, according to Excise Commissioner General M.G. Gunasiri.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has announced that all schools will be closed on September 20th. Schools will reopen on Monday, September 23rd. Furthermore, schools designated as polling stations are to be handed over to local officials by September 19th, following the completion of school hours.
