PUCSL Approves 18% Electricity Tariff Hike for Households Using Over 180 Units
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has decided to increase electricity tariffs by 18% for household consumers who use more than 180 units during the second and third quarters of 2026.

However, the Commission stated that there will be no revision to electricity tariffs for household consumers who use less than 180 units.

PUCSL said it approved the 18% tariff increase due to the impact of an estimated Rs. 38 billion deficit expected in both this quarter and the next quarter, caused by rising electricity costs and three key contributing factors.

The Commission further stated that the government has agreed in writing to provide relief amounting to Rs. 15 billion.

As a result, PUCSL noted that the electricity tariff increase will affect only around 5% of electricity consumers.

Accordingly, the Commission emphasized that 95% of electricity consumers will not be affected by this tariff increase.
