Mr. Mahinda Deshapriya emphasizes that the non-holding of provincial councils and local government bodies polls is a serious problem for the democracy of a country.
He points out that the authorities will take steps to hold at least one election from the provincial council and local government polls this year.
He also mentions that the Supreme Court has given a decision that this rule, which is carried out by governors, secretaries and commissioners without the control of the people, without people’s representatives, is illegal.
