The Election Commission says that the Inspector General of Police has been informed in writing to provide additional security to the state press.
Its chairman lawyer Mr. Nimal Punchihewa mentioned that yesterday (16) afternoon the related letter was forwarded to the Inspector General of Police.
Yesterday, Mrs. Gangani Liyanage, Chief of the Government Press, said that due to the lack of adequate police protection, the printing work related to the local government vote has been hampered.
Meanwhile, during our inquiry, the head of the printing press stated last night that no additional police protection has been provided to the printing press until then.
