Professor P. N. D. Fernando Takes Over as Chairman of People’s Bank

Professor P. N. D. Fernando has officially taken over as the Chairman of People’s Bank, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s leadership. The formal assumption of duties took place at the bank’s head office, with Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Mr. Clariv Fonseka, along with members of the senior management, in attendance.

Professor Fernando brings a wealth of expertise, boasting over 25 years of experience in finance, banking, and higher education. He has previously served as a Professor and Head of the Department of Finance at the University of Kelaniya and as the Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies. His extensive academic career spans 27 years, during which he made a profound impact on financial education in Sri Lanka by pioneering the introduction of innovative degree programs.

In addition to his academic achievements, Professor Fernando holds postgraduate qualifications from renowned international universities. He has also contributed his expertise as a consultant and resource person to several prominent financial institutions across the country, further solidifying his reputation as a leader in the field.

This new appointment is expected to bring fresh perspectives and leadership to People’s Bank, leveraging Professor Fernando’s deep knowledge and experience to drive the institution forward.
