Private Institutions Seek Ministerial Bungalows: Evaluation Underway by Public Administration Ministry
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Sources from the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government have revealed that over ten private institutions have submitted requests to rent ministerial bungalows.

Previously, several state institutions and judges had also expressed interest in using these properties.

Addressing the matter, Minister of Public Administration, Professor Chandana Abeyratne, stated that a committee has been appointed to evaluate the status and value of both ministerial and presidential bungalows. The minister noted that a decision regarding these properties will be announced following the committee’s assessment.

Professor Abeyratne confirmed that while numerous requests have been received to rent the ministerial bungalows, none of them have been considered thus far.

Currently, nine presidential bungalows are allocated across the country. These properties are located in Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Anuradhapura, Kataragama, Jaffna, Embilipitiya, Bentota, and Mahiyanganaya.

However, according to ministry officials, some ministerial bungalows have fallen into a state of disrepair, rendering them unusable. A ministry spokesperson further disclosed that financial constraints have hindered necessary renovations for these properties.
