A prisoner serving a sentence for the rape and murder of Jaffna schoolgirl Sivaloganadan Vidya attempted to assault a female doctor at the Pallekele Dumbara Prison hospital, police reported yesterday.
The incident took place when the doctor visited the prison to provide medical treatment to the convict.
According to police, the prisoner tried to assault the doctor during the examination. Hospital staff and prison guards intervened promptly, ensuring her safety.
Pallekele police have launched an investigation into the incident.
