The principal of Bambalapitiya Ramanathan Hindu College, where a Grade 10 student from Kotahena, Colombo, who recently died by suicide, was studying, has been transferred to the Ministry of Education.
An official from the ministry has been appointed as acting principal of the school.
The transfer is linked to an ongoing investigation into an incident involving the alleged abuse of the student by a teacher at the school last year. A three-member committee has been appointed to carry out a detailed inquiry into the matter.
The teacher in question has also been placed on compulsory leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
