Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya made a significant disclosure in Parliament today regarding the expenditure on foreign trips undertaken by former presidents.
During the parliamentary session, the Prime Minister presented detailed figures on the funds spent by each former head of state on international travel over the years. The breakdown is as follows:
- Mahinda Rajapaksa (2010–2014): Rs. 3,572 million
- Maithripala Sirisena (2015–2019): Rs. 384 million
- Gotabaya Rajapaksa (2020–2022): Rs. 126 million
- Ranil Wickremesinghe (2023–2024): Rs. 533 million
- Anura Kumara Dissanayake (September 2024–February 2025): Rs. 1.8 million
The Prime Minister further highlighted that the highest single-year expenditure from 2010 to 2025 was recorded under President Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2013, amounting to Rs. 1,144 million.
This revelation has sparked discussions on the financial accountability of past administrations regarding state-funded foreign travel.
