Press Conference Restrictions Violate Media Freedom – Professional Web Journalists Association
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Professional Web Journalists Association expresses deep concern over the recent requirement mandating that only individuals holding a media identity card issued by the Department of Government Information be allowed to participate in press conferences held to announce cabinet decisions.

The Association firmly believes that this decision constitutes a restriction on media freedom, obstructs the public’s right to information, and poses a serious threat to the democratic values of the country.

Journalists play a vital role in reporting news and disseminating information to the public. They are dedicated to seeking the truth and delivering accurate information to society. This new regulation by the Department of Government Information significantly hampers the professional activities of media practitioners and directly impacts the ability of professional journalist associations to carry out their responsibilities.

In light of these concerns, we strongly urge the government and the Department of Government Information to reconsider and immediately revoke this decision in the interest of upholding media freedom and democratic integrity.
