UNP General Secretary Range Bandara revealed at a meeting in Medavachchi today that President Ranil Wickramasinghe has submitted a proposal to the Cabinet to determine whether the President’s term of office should be 5 or 6 years, according to Sri Lanka Latest News.

He stated that the proposal would be presented to Parliament as a bill in the future.

However, the Presidential Media Unit issued a special announcement yesterday, affirming that President Ranil Wickramasinghe firmly believes the President’s term should be 5 years and that the Election Commission is correct in conducting the presidential election in 2024.

The announcement also mentioned that President Ranil Wickramasinghe emphasized that Chamindra Dayan Lenawa did not consult him or his lawyers before filing the petition regarding the President’s tenure before the Supreme Court.
