The Cabinet has approved the President’s proposal to appoint a three-member committee to investigate the murder of Sir Edward Henry Pedris 108 years ago. Sri Lanka Latest News

Retired Supreme Court Judge Mr Anil Gunaratne has been appointed as the chairman of that committee.

Henry Pedris has been sentenced to death by the colonial authorities of Sri Lanka for rioting and treason against the government.

On July 7, 1915, Sir Edward Henry Pedris, who was then 27 years old, was brought before a court martial.

Another peculiarity is that Henry Pedris was executed regardless of any appeal.

The body of the deceased Mr. Henry Pedris has been cremated at an undisclosed location following the procedure prescribed for the cremation of a criminal convicted under martial law.

The killing has been recognized as the result of a plan carried out by the senior officials who controlled the country at that time.

Accordingly, this committee has been appointed to present a report with recommendations to the Council of Ministers to find out the real information regarding the murder.
