A high-level discussion focusing on the challenges facing the export industry sector was held this morning (28) at the Presidential Secretariat, under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The meeting was attended by heads of institutions under the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, as well as officials from the Ministry of Finance and Planning. During the discussion, special emphasis was placed on the government’s strategic program to strengthen domestic production and transition towards an export-oriented manufacturing economy.
Participants also addressed the formulation of a comprehensive, long-term industrial development plan aimed at overcoming existing challenges within the sector.
Key steps required to enhance the performance of the export sector were thoroughly discussed, with several proposals and plans being presented directly to the President.
Among those present at the discussion were Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti, Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Mahinda Siriwardena, Secretary to the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Thilaka Jayasundara, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Russell Aponsu, along with a group of senior government officials.
