In response to Donald Trump’s recent electoral victory, several prominent Sri Lankan leaders have extended their congratulations, underscoring hopes for strengthened relations between the United States and Sri Lanka.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake conveyed his “warm congratulations” to Trump, acknowledging the substantial support he received in becoming the 47th president of the United States. Dissanayake expressed optimism for continued collaboration, highlighting shared objectives that could benefit both nations.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa also extended his congratulations, wishing for “peace, goodwill, and meaningful cooperation” during Trump’s term. Premadasa voiced hopes for wisdom and resilience in Trump’s leadership as he addresses the challenges ahead.

Former Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickramasinghe commended Trump’s return to the presidency, calling it a “historic accomplishment” and drawing parallels to the unique political path of former U.S. President Grover Cleveland. Wickramasinghe noted the renewed confidence of the American people in Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, in their mission to “Make America Great Again,” and wished them success in their endeavors.
