President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has emphasized that Sri Lanka can be developed into an attractive tourist destination through well-planned urban development that extends beyond conventional construction methods.
He made these remarks during a discussion with officials from the National Physical Planning Department at the Presidential Secretariat today (05).
The President directed officials to ensure that urban development plans reflect Sri Lanka’s unique identity while being implemented.
During the discussion, significant attention was given to the government’s initiative to enhance both urban and rural areas, aiming to strengthen the national economy by prioritizing rural economic development. President Dissanayake underscored the importance of preserving the cultural heritage and traditional lifestyles of rural communities in this development process.
The event was attended by Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Mahinda Siriwardena, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Russell Aponso, Secretary to the Ministry of Urban Development, Construction, and Housing Ranjith Ariyaratne, Director General of the National Physical Planning Department W.R. Ruchira Withana, along with several other officials from the department.
