Sri Lanka’s ongoing operation to dismantle the country’s drug network has reached a new milestone, as reports indicate that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has decided to completely destroy the international drug trafficking network operating with Sri Lanka as its central hub.
During discussions held under the President’s leadership with investigation teams, it has been revealed that security divisions have cautioned him about the serious security risks he could face if such an operation is carried out.
However, the President has firmly stated that no matter what pressures or threats arise, he will not halt the campaign launched to eradicate drugs in the country.
According to information received by Mawrata newspaper, the President has also exchanged views on this matter with responsible members of his political party.
It is further reported that investigative authorities have already begun taking steps to identify all the major international networks responsible for importing tons of drugs into Sri Lanka and re-exporting them, and to completely dismantle these supply chains.
Additionally, with the arrest and repatriation of the group led by Kehelbaddara Padme, approximately 50% of the local drug trade has already been disrupted, according to reports.
