President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is reportedly prepared to take firm measures if the agreed release of rice stocks to the market, as determined in discussions with large-scale mill owners, does not materialize.
Government sources indicate that the agreed quantities of rice will be released to the market within the next 14 days, adhering to the terms of the recent discussions.
Meanwhile, officials from the Consumer Affairs Authority have initiated inspections of paddy and rice warehouses owned by large-scale millers in Polonnaruwa.
It is understood that the President remains resolute in his commitment to address the issue and is ready to implement further actions should the rice shortage persist.
