President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized his commitment to impartial governance, asserting that he and the current administration have no exclusive affiliations with any political group in their mission to develop the country and drive economic progress. He pledged to make every decision decisively and without favoritism.

President Dissanayake made these remarks during a meeting with the Sri Lanka Banks Association at the Presidential Secretariat today (29). The discussion covered the role of banks in supporting Sri Lanka’s economic growth and the challenges they face.

Among the key points addressed was the importance of digital transformation and the implementation of electronic identity cards, with the President confirming that this program will be completed within 18 months.

Addressing the current economic crisis, the President underscored the need to support entrepreneurs through the banking system while cautioning against any misuse of such support. He emphasized that the approach should safeguard both the banks and the entrepreneurs, ensuring balanced economic protection.

The President also highlighted the significant size of Sri Lanka’s informal sector, stressing that efforts to formalize it must protect those who currently rely on it for their livelihoods.

In addition, President Dissanayake discussed ongoing obstacles to efficient project completion and sustained investments, particularly issues related to corruption. He reiterated his administration’s dedication to establishing a streamlined, transparent, and effective governance system.

Attendees included CEO of the Sri Lanka Banks Association, Bingumal Thewarathanthri, along with other leading figures from prominent banks, including Sanath Manathunga (Commercial Bank), Hemantha Gunathilaka (Nations Trust Bank), Ayodhya Iddawela (Sampath Bank), Ramesh Jayasekara (Hatton National Bank), Kelum Edirisinghe (Seylan Bank), Niranjan Figuerado (NDB Bank), and Indrajith Boyagoda (Deutsche Bank).
