A crucial discussion between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and small and medium-scale rice mill owners was held today (02) at the Presidential Secretariat.

During the meeting, the President emphasized the importance of maintaining a consistent and affordable rice supply for consumers in the coming months. He urged the rice mill owners to take proactive measures to prevent shortages and ensure price stability.

The discussion also focused on enhancing the country’s storage capacity to safeguard against potential shortages. Additionally, concerns were raised about the reduction in rice stocks available for consumption due to the diversion of Nadu rice for value-added products.

President Dissanayake further highlighted the potential of implementing a QR code system to efficiently integrate the fertilizer subsidy into national production efforts, thereby boosting agricultural output.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe, Lak Sathosa Chairman Dr. Samitha Perera, along with officials and representatives of small and medium-scale rice mill owners.
