President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced today that Mahinda Siriwardena, the current Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, will retire from his position at the end of this month. Following his retirement, Mr. Siriwardena will assume duties as an Alternate Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), representing Sri Lanka along with six other countries.
The announcement was made during the inauguration ceremony of the ‘National Tax Week,’ held this morning (02) at the Presidential Secretariat.
Commenting on Mr. Siriwardena’s service, President Dissanayake stated:
“As he mentioned, Sri Lanka has become one of the lowest tax states in recent and even world history. In our efforts to transition to a fairer tax system, a number of institutional and legal reforms have been undertaken under the leadership of our Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Mahinda Siriwardena.”
The President further added:
“I would like to acknowledge him in this context. I believe he will officially retire from his post as Secretary to the Ministry of Finance at the end of this month. He will be leaving to take up the role of Alternate Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank, representing a constituency of seven countries, including Sri Lanka.”
President Dissanayake concluded by expressing his appreciation for Mr. Siriwardena’s contributions:
“I take this opportunity to extend my special gratitude to him. We must recognize and appreciate the significant role he has played in implementing these vital tax reforms.”
