When there were conflicts within the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna or Pohottuwa, it has been learned that the operation launched by the parties related to the government over the past few weeks to bring a group of its members to the ruling party to form a new political front has now ended. Cabinet Ministers Prasanna Ranatunga, Kanchana Wijesekera and Member of Parliament Nimal Lanza were entrusted to carry out this operation.
The government had arranged to provide the official residence of former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa at Malalasekara Mawatha for this operation.
Accordingly, the operation to hold talks involving the president and the district leaders and councilors of Pohottuwa was launched from this house.
Mr. Sagara Kariyawasam, Secretary General of Pohottu, who protested on both occasions, had informed the President to officially inform Pohottu if he was called for negotiations.
But despite that, although Prasanna Ranatunga, Kanchana Wijesekera, Nimal Lanza and others took steps to call such a discussion last Monday, Pohottuwa had officially decided to boycott the discussion.
In the face of this reaction from Pohottuwa, the President had finally decided to remove the power of convening these talks from Prasanna Ranatunga and others and to do it officially through the Prime Minister’s Office.
Accordingly, last Wednesday, another discussion was held between the President and the leaders of Pohottuwa, where the Secretary General of Pohottuwa Mr. Sagara Kariyawasam informed the President not to make unnecessary divisions within Pohottuwa through calls made through intermediaries.
Accordingly, at the end of the discussion, the President had stated that such a discussion between all party representatives should be held once a month, and that it would be held on an official invitation.
