Police Headquarters has reported that more than 7,000 complaints have been received from the public through the dedicated WhatsApp number 071-8598888, which was introduced for submitting complaints directly to the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

IGP and Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasuriya stated that each of these complaints is being given immediate attention and investigations are currently underway.

Commenting further, the IGP said:

“Public reports indicate that police officers are sometimes refusing to accept complaints or are failing to conduct proper investigations. There are also reports of certain police officers having links with organized criminals and drug traffickers.

All necessary measures have been implemented to ensure the confidentiality of individuals who submit complaints and information through this WhatsApp number. Raids have already been conducted successfully based on credible information received via this platform.”
