An apprentice police constable assigned to guard the official residence of a magistrate was arrested with 405 mg of heroin by a team of officers of the Anuradhapura Division Criminal Investigation Department during a raid yesterday (28).

Investigations have revealed that this constable, who has not yet completed one year in the police service, is heavily addicted to drugs.

This officer is attached to the Nivithigala Police and is a resident of Pemadu, Karambagolla. Investigations have also revealed that on the 24th, he had returned to his home in Anuradhapura without any permission from his superiors.

This police officer was arrested in the market place of Anuradhapura city while buying drugs through easy cash system.

A senior police officer stated that this police officer was caught in a raid after a long investigation into drug trafficking in Anuradhapura through easy cash system and did not know that he was a police officer until he was arrested.
