In an effort to maintain order and ensure the safety of devotees participating in the ‘Siri Dalada Vandana’ in Kandy, the police have announced the introduction of a special identification badge for those queuing up for the event.

The initiative was set into motion starting from last night (April 23).

This decision was formally announced during a special joint press conference held yesterday afternoon (23), attended by Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Central Province, Lalith Pathinayake, and DIG in charge of the Kandy and Matale Districts, Sudath Masinghe.

The move follows reports of disturbances within the queues, including incidents of clashes among devotees. Tragically, one individual is reported to have died due to a heart attack during the commotion.
