Ceylon Petroleum Statutory Corporation Independent Employees Union says that it will start a hunger strike today (27) against the sale of shares owned by Ceylon Petroleum Statutory Corporation.

Its President Mr. Jagath Wijegunaratne said that he has planned to start his fast from 7 this morning.

Mr. Jagath Wijegunaratne, President of Ceylon Petroleum Statutory Employees’ Association, who further explains the facts in this regard,

“Currently the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation is making very good profits. The existing petroleum corporation is to hand over 600 gas stations belonging to that corporation to foreign companies without any reason. This deal is the biggest corrupt, most disgraceful sleazy deal to happen this year, because this deal will not get any dollar to the government. We have learnt that this cabinet paper will be submitted to the cabinet soon. Therefore, we finally say that in order to defeat this act of discrimination, we, the oil corporation trade unions; will start this protest movement with a fast from this morning. We invite all petroleum workers to join the fight to save our oil corporation and secure our jobs, regardless of party or trade union differences.”
