A petition has been submitted to the Supreme Court requesting an order to disqualify former MP Ranjan Ramanayake’s candidacy in the upcoming general election, where he is running under the United Democratic Voice Organization for the Gampaha District.

The petition further calls for a ruling declaring that Ranjan Ramanayake is ineligible to hold a parliamentary seat or participate in parliamentary voting.

This petition was filed by K.M. Mahinda Senanayake, an independent candidate also contesting for the Gampaha District.

Respondents named in the petition include the Election Commission and its members, Ranjan Ramanayake, the Gampaha District Returning Officer, among others.
