“Hospitals across the island are currently facing a severe shortage of radiology technicians. There is a risk that these tests will be stopped in the future due to the retirement of officials especially in places where CT, MRI and PET tests are conducted. Then there is a risk that CT, MRI, PET tests etc. will be stopped at Ratnapura, Galle, Badulla, Sri Lanka National Hospital. In this way, the retirement and departure of officials is happening. With this situation, the radiation service is facing a severe crisis in the future. For this, as a quick step, we suggest that recruitment and officers retire from 60 to 63 temporarily.”

Its General Secretary of technicians Union Mr. Dharmakirthi Apa mentioned that there is a serious risk situation in Rattapura, Galle, Badulla and Colombo National Hospital.

He mentioned that there will be problems in the future regarding the operation of pet scan machines at the Colombo National Hospital and Asthiya Hospital.

“By next month, PET scans will stop at the Sri Lanka National Hospital. We have nothing to do. When these officers retire. There are only two officers in that department. One is retiring. The other is retiring in three months. Accordingly, from next month, this is not a task that can be done by only one officer. We need three people here. But now these tasks are done by two people. After both of them retire, the Pet Department of the National Hospital has to be closed. In this way, about 1000 pet examinations have been done since the day this hospital started. Then due to the collapse of these services, cancer patients will have to suffer a lot.”
