Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa’s Statement in Parliament on Discriminatory Actions Against Muslims
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Speaking about the burial and cremation issue, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa stated in Parliament today that a previous government in the political history of this country used groups claiming to be experts to impose their nationalist views on the Muslim and Islamic population of Sri Lanka. This despicable act continued even when the World Health Organization declared it wrong. Special committees were set up to target and hunt down the Muslim population.

Premadasa highlighted that this action, which stripped Muslims of their constitutional rights, was a violation of fundamental rights. He noted that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and the Samagi Jana Sandhanaya courageously took to the streets to defeat the then government’s oppressive policies.

He further called on the President to investigate and identify those responsible for the extremist religious and nationalist actions that targeted a single community after the 2019 Presidential Election.
