The opposition leader said that as soon as an incident of breach of privilege occurs, it is the Speaker’s responsibility to refer it to the Privileges Committee, but the Speaker did not do so, but a committee was established under the chairmanship of Mr. Ajith Rajapaksa and that committee took a decision. Sri Lanka Latest News

He thinks that the committee was appointed to help the Privileges Committee by taking a decision from that committee and implementing that decision through the Privileges Committee, but at the moment, regardless of the decision of the committee appointed by the speaker, the Privileges Committee is acting differently and the activities of the Privileges Committee should be fair, impartial and transparent. The Leader of the Opposition said.

Opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa said today (2) that Mr. Ajith Mannapperuma was banned from Parliament for a month because of his involvement in Senkolaya and the person who interrupted him when he asked a question about economic criminals was banned from Parliament for only 2 weeks said in Parliament.

Mr. Chamal Rajapaksa, who was the Chairman of the Privileges Committee, signed the decision taken under the chairmanship of Mr. Ajith Rajapaksa and he should have said that he would withdraw that decision, but he did not do so. Therefore, Mr. Chamal Rajapaksa as the Chairman of the Privileges Committee has no moral right to announce a separate decision. The opposition leader added.

Therefore, opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa requested the speaker to withdraw the proposal in this agenda and enter into separate discussions.
