The Leader of the Opposition stated that an investigation has been launched after it was acknowledged that an irregularity occurred in the preparation of modules related to education reforms. He said that, pending the completion of the investigation, the Director General has been temporarily removed from duty.
In this context, the Opposition Leader noted that the Deputy Director General of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, the officers responsible for academic work in the English Department, as well as the officers involved in preparing the relevant module, have not been mentioned.
Speaking in Parliament today, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said that at a time when certain countries around the world have imposed age limits on internet access, not only the Director General but also other officials were involved in the inclusion of content that should not have been included in these modules. He further stated that additional serious shortcomings have been identified within the modules.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa also pointed out that the Ashoka Chakra has been included under religious and values education instead of the Buddhist Dharma Chakra, describing this as a serious issue. He emphasized that such errors must be corrected. He further noted that the Dharma Chakra, which appears in the State Emblem, is not included, and stressed that these matters require correction through a more formal discussion and dialogue.
