During the last presidential election, former President Ranil Wickremesinghe pledged to provide 5,000 apartments to the people of Colombo. However, it was revealed in Parliament today that only 167 houses have been allocated so far.
This disclosure came in response to a query raised by MP S.M. Marikkar.
At the time of the initial promise, Mr. Wickremesinghe assured that residents would not have to pay installments. However, MP Marikkar pointed out in Parliament that residents are now receiving letters demanding payment of outstanding arrears along with installments.
