The 71st anniversary celebration of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party was held today (02) at the Maharagama Youth Seva Sabha Auditorium under the chairmanship of the Party Chairman, former President Maithripala Sirisena, where the party’s Secretary General, Member of Parliament Mr. Dayasiri Jayasekara, presented the party’s new constitutional amendment proposal to the Assembly.

Sri Lanka Freedom Party Secretary General Dayasiri Jayasekara,

“At the discretion of the party president, the president has the power to remove officers for the positions indicated in the constitution.”

“Regardless of what is stated elsewhere in the party constitution, if a member or MP goes against the constitution, if he supports another party, if he does not accept the instructions of the party leader, if the chairman feels that he is committing an undisciplined act, the political board has the power to ban or expel him from party membership.” The proposal was passed unanimously.

However, during the budget voting held today (2) , five MPs of the party went outside the party’s opinion and voted in favor of it.

They are Duminda Dissanayake, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Ranjith Siambalapitiya, Jagath Pushpa Kumara and Chamara Sampath Disanayake.

Accordingly, many are waiting to see if the party leader Mr. Maithripala Sirisena will take any action against these five.
