The Electricity Board announced that 15 cash clerks were first suspended for obstructing the payment of electricity bills by closing the cash windows during the recent protest.

Recently, its trade unions launched a protest campaign saying that the Electricity Board is going to be privatized.

Accordingly, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera subsequently instructed the management of the Ceylon Electricity Board to suspend and take appropriate disciplinary action against any employee who obstructs the services or acts in violation of the guidelines issued by the CEB management.

It is reported that the Electricity Board, which acted accordingly, has suspended 66 employees.
