Duminda Nagamuwa, the Frontline Socialist Party’s Propaganda Secretary, is currently out on bail on charges of obstructing court proceedings and insulting the court by blocking the way in front of the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court when the convener of the Inter-University Student Council was being taken to prison from Wasantha Mudali’s court. Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe summoned eight people, including Reverend Galvewa Siridhamma Thera and actor Jehan Appuhami, to appear in court on January 31st.

The Frontline Socialist Party’s Propaganda Secretary Duminda Nagamuwa, Galwewa Siridhamma Thero, actor Jehan Appuhami, Rathkarawe Jinarathana Thero, Amal Salinda, Anjana Rodrigo, Mala Fernando, and Pokunuvita Sirisoma Thero have all been summoned by the court.

According to the Keselwatta Police, on the 12th, when the convener of the Inter-University Student Union, Wasantha Mudali, was taken to Magistrate’s Court No. 08 of the Aluthkade Court between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., a large number of people gathered in front of the court and came near the court and held a protest with large placards. The court was informed of the facts.

The Keselwatta police informed the court that they had blocked the main entrance of the Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court so that lawyers and members of the public could not pass through, chanting slogans such as ‘Victory to the struggle’ and ‘Free Wasantha Mudalige.

The above-mentioned individuals have been summoned to appear in court for obstructing court proceedings and insulting the court in violation of Sections 140 of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, 59 (1) of the Manmavat Act, and 55 (1) (2) of the Judicial Organization Act. The Keselwatta police asked the court to issue it.

Following a review of the pertinent facts, the magistrate ordered the eight suspects to appear in court on January 31.
