The Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act No. 15 of 1979 (PTA) is still the most draconian piece of legislation in our country’s legal system. Passed in July 1979 as a temporary provisions Act, as the title implies, it has lived and thrived for 44 long years since then, causing injustice, misery, and hardship to many. With an island-wide campaign, Justice for All advocated for the repeal of PTA and garnered massive public support.
