The Additional General Manager of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB), Darshana Medawatta, has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
According to the Commission, he was taken into custody on charges of causing a financial loss to the government. The allegations state that he obtained a luxury jeep on a rental basis and paid over Rs. 12.7 million using funds allocated for the Kandy North Pathadumbara Integrated Water Supply Project. The Commission has deemed the act a corruption-related offence.
The Commission further revealed that a businessman from the Gampaha area, identified as Nalin Liyanage, has also been arrested in connection with the incident.
