Nuwara Eliya District Secretary Urges Drivers to Avoid Night Travel Amid Landslide Risk
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Nuwara Eliya District Secretary Thushari Tennakoon has urged motorists to refrain from travelling on any road leading to Nuwara Eliya during nighttime. Sri Lanka Latest News

She made this request during a media briefing held yesterday (11) afternoon at the Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat.

The District Secretary explained that a section of an earth mound had collapsed on the Gampola–Nuwara Eliya main road near the Katukithula area—an area that had only recently been reopened to traffic. She noted that the decision was taken due to the risk of additional collapses along these roads as a result of the prevailing weather conditions.

She further stated that all individuals affected by the ‘Ditwa’ cyclone in the Nuwara Eliya district have been provided with the necessary assistance, including food supplies. She added that certain statements being circulated by some individuals—both those affected and those not affected—are false and appear to be aimed at discrediting the government.
