According to data supplied by the Northern Province Probation and Child Care Services Department, by June 2022, 246 children had been placed in orphanages by Northern Province parents.

According to Mr. Guruparan Rajendran, Northern Provincial Probation and Child Care Commissioner, this is primarily due to the people’s acute economic hardship.

However, he claims that a scenario has occurred in which the money to be paid by the Treasury for the Probation and Child Care Department have not been formally received.

The reason for this is that the government is in a terrible financial crisis.

According to Mr. Guruparan Rajendran, the current economic crisis has caused a trend for moms to travel overseas, posing a severe threat to the protection of female children.
