Not far from Sri Lanka moment, warns Imran
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan warned on Saturday that Pakistan is on the verge of a Sri Lanka-style public outpouring for the ‘Haqeeqi Azadi.’

Imran Khan lamented on Twitter that the mafia led by Asif Zardari and the Sharif family had brought the country to its knees politically and economically in less than three months, according to the Pakistan Observer.

He went on to say that they only did it to save their illegally amassed wealth amassed over 30 years of plundering Pakistan. “My question is, how long will state institutions tolerate this?”

He stated that after his interactions with the nation and their response to his call for Haqeeqi Azadi, he could say with certainty that the people of Pakistan have had enough and will not allow these mafias to continue their looting and plunder. “We are not far from the moment in Sri Lanka when our people pour out into the streets,” he said.

The message from the PTI chairman came as the Supreme Court heard a petition from Parvez Elahi challenging a deputy speaker’s ruling that rejected 10 PML-Q votes for violating party head Chaudhry Shujaat’s directive. A three-member Supreme Court of Pakistan bench led by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial summoned the Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly today after the PTI and PML-Q filed petitions challenging Hamza Shahbaz’s victory in the election for CM Punjab.

The case was heard today by a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan, and Justice Munib Akhtar. The Supreme Court also summoned Hamza Shahbaz, the Attorney General, the Chief Secretary of Punjab, and the Advocate General of Punjab, and directed the deputy speaker to bring the record of the Chief Minister of Punjab election.

During the hearing, the chief justice stated that nothing in their decision was mentioned by the deputy speaker during the assembly proceedings. “We are here to learn,” he said, adding that he would summon the deputy speaker to identify the paragraph from the Supreme Court’s decision that he used to make his decision.
