He also mentioned that the North, East, North Central and Uva provinces, which are currently experiencing severe drought, can expect significant rains in the months of October, November and December.
The director general said that although the southwest monsoon season (May-September) has started, there is a significant lack of rain. He also stated that various factors including the El Nino situation may have affected this.
According to the Department of Meteorology, the Southwest Monsoon will bring rain to West, Matara Galle Sabaragamuwa, Nuwara Eliya, Kurunegala and Puttalam.
However, the department mentioned that some parts of the island may experience rain in the evening.
