Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said in the Parliament today (8) that none of the nominations sent by the President for the 3rd time and thereafter for the appointment of the Inspector General of Police were confirmed and appointed by the Legislative Council and this is also known to the other members of the Legislative Council. Regarding the appointment of the Inspector General of Police, although the appointments were made for 3 months each on 2 occasions, a letter was sent to the President stating that when the second appointment is made, the next appointment should be a permanent appointment.
The opposition leader said here that the President has the power to nominate the Inspector General of Police and the Legislative Assembly has the power to approve or reject it and there is no problem in interpreting the provisions of the Constitution.
